Students from 36 schools, including charter and private institutions, participated in the 40th Annual San Joaquin County Science Olympiad Competition for Division A (grades three through six). A total of 50 teams from across the county competed in the one-day event held at McNair High School on Saturday, March 7.
Science Olympiad tournaments are challenging academic competitions featuring a series of individual and team events that students prepare for throughout the year. The competitions are modeled after popular board games, TV shows, and athletic games. These events cover a balanced range of science disciplines, including biology, earth science, chemistry, physics, computers, and technology. Participants are tested on their knowledge of scientific facts, concepts, processes, skills, and applications.
